Statement of Johanna Colgrove '92

There are many logistical problems with this proposal covered by many others.

Any proposal created within a small dedicated group of volunteers that clearly caused great hurt, should be viewed with suspicion and probably thrown out and started over. People weren’t listened to when objections were raised. It was pushed through quickly and with no respect for the experience of chapter leaders who opposed it.

The current board leadership wants to focus on young alumni, diversity & inclusion and career networking and has decided the chapters are irrelevant to this. Chapters have a long history of engaging with these topics. As the board develops new efforts this needs to be done in partnership with the chapters, not isolated from them. This proposal creates a barrier of time, space, and communication between chapters and the rest of the alumni board. This proposal makes working together harder. And that will be a great setback for the alumni board and chapters going forward in working on these important areas. I urge you to vote no.
